Leather sling recommendations?

I have three Levy's. 2.25, 2.32 and 2.4 inches at the widest.
the narrow 2 are a single layer of leather, and the double layer is the widest and stitched.
Had them all for sometime and rate them very high.

After I ordered a replica vz. 24 sling and was impressed with the quality, I have since ordered nearly all my slings from mountain state supply.

They recently had some B-grade sporter slings on sale for $7!

The Safari Ching Sling looks nice. Is there really that much of a difference between Andy's Rhodesian and it?

I've been using the SCSs since 2005, when at first intended to get a Ching Sling, and had the third swivel attached to the rifle in preparation for it. But when I saw the SCS option, I chose it and never looked back. I got my first ones from Gunsite, which were stamped with the Gunsite raven, but the ones bought directly from Galco are not, although both are made by Galco. IMHO, Andy's Rhodesian Sling appears to be an excellent product, but would be even better with the addition of a keeper on the front loop. This would help the front loop lie flat when the sling was used as a carry strap, or when the rifle was carried in the hands, and it would allow the shooter to sling up securely as he would with a military loop sling. The SCS doesn't snag in heavy cover, it provides the comfort of a cobra sling when used as a carry strap, and there is no length adjustment that must be made when transitioning from carry strap top shooting sling. All the shooter does is pull the horse shoe up on the back of his arm, get on target, and press the trigger. If Andy made a version of the CSC, I'd certainly buy one to see how it compared, and if I liked it, I'd buy several more, as I prefer to support a small business over a corporation. But to get my support, Andy has to make the product I want. I also think he's find there is a market for reproduction 1907 slings, although Les Tam's would be hard to beat.

I had forgotten all about your endorsement of the SCS and those pics Boomer (which you've posted elsewhere here before).

I'm going to pick up a SCS from Galco and compare it in quality and usage to the Ching and Rhodesian slings I have from Andy's.

Do you know of a Canadian supplier, or must I order from Galco directly? (I too like to support a small business when I can.)

I'll post a new thread when I've done so.

Standard old school Military Issue that were used on the M1 Garand and the M305. There are many reasons that the US Military used that type and design of sling. I have them on all of my bolt action rifles. They are available through Sinclair from $41.95 to $59.99 US. When you strap in if U have time they steady your shot for long range shooting and they make carrying your rifle in the field comfortable. If U do not have time to strap in U can use them in the hasty sling configuration for fast off hand shooting. Of course U must take care of them to keep them from cracking.

I bought my first two from Gunsite, but they no longer seem to want to cater to the Canadian market, so all my subsequent ones have been directly from Galco Int'l. A word of warning though, I haven't bought anything from Galco recently, but CGNers have reported unreasonable charges for shipping and handling, but I don't know this first hand. Rather than ordering on line, it might be worth a phone call to them to ensure your "in hand" cost is not out of line.

Great prices! Just made an order.
Now need to find a good place to buy swivels. Are Uncle Mike's good quality?

I'll throw another vote out there for Andy's Leathers, I'm quite happy with my Rhodesian sling on my Ruger Scout, though I'm sure the Galco Chings and Andy's Ching sling are also great, I just wasn't in to putting another swivel stud in my stock. I like the idea of Boomer's Ching that he posted pictures of as well.

For the record, if you just want a plain leather 2 point sling, Andy makes those as well and you won't find a nicer guy to buy from.

I doubt that the Rhodesian would be as fast as the Safari Ching Sling. All one has to do with the SCS is pull the horseshoe up on the pack of your arm, it literally takes a second. The big loop on the Rhodesian Sling to me is reminiscent of a military loop sling sans the keeper. I like shooting slung up, and I have no issue with the military loop sling, but I don't know how positive the Rhodesian would be without the keeper. That said, the original Ching Sling design remains excellent.

I think our interpretations on the Rhodesian differ slightly. The front loop is adjustable but is not adjusted when the rifle is being donned, rather it is a fixed loop with a buckle to keep it set in place once adjusted to the shooter, In it's essence I see it and the Safari Ching effectively doing the same thing; which is sling in contact with one point of the rifle and the back of the upper support arm. Two different designs to the same end. Kind of a hybrid of the original and the safari. The biggest difference I see is how you don the sling. Which is faster is probably determined on your method of carry and familiarity with the motion. The Rhodesian is donned like the original Ching; rifle is held with strong hand and support hand is placed through the loop in the sling and then grips the forestock, where the Safari Ching it is the support hand that holds the rifle and the strong hand brings the sling into place then returning to the wrist of the rifle. Which is better is really the one the user is more comfortable with putting on. I am familiar with a short 2 point CW on my bush rifle and now have the original Ching on my Weatherby, so that kind of directs my preference.

I wanted a sling that would match the rich finish of my sako but not be branded or gaudy.
I got it from traildustleather on ebay. They are a bit pricier this year but I do recommend them, way nicer than any I found locally or at the big box outdoor stores.

Try contacting the great folks at Tundra Leather located in Hamilton, Ontario. I had them make up a nice 1 inch leather sling out of bridle leather, rich dark brown colour to match my rifles stock. A few Chicago screws for any adjustments and this sling will last more than a lifetime. They can do/ create anything you desire for a reasonable price.

I'm sure you could also get the same from any other leather shops in your area or horse tack shops. Good luck
