Hey Gang, not sure this is the right place to post this, but here goes.

You can buy Marini-Henry leather wraps for the foregrip of your rifle. These would look so cool on all of my single shot shot/slug guns. You could rest the front on a tree without worrying about scratching, etc. Seems like a smart idea.

Anyone tried this? Bought a piece of raw hide, cut and laced it? Or is there a kit you can buy?

I want to try it, but I'm not sure where to begin.

For hunting the problem is that the leather will become wet and hold the moisture. So you'd want to remove it each day to dry and wipe down the barrel with a bit of oil.

But other than that there's no reason why not. You're talking about a very simple sort of project.

I'd go with some middle weight thickness vegetable tanned leather so it is roughly 3/32 or 2 to 2.5 mm thick. Use a leather punch to add the lacing holes. And if the laces are the part that crosses over the barrel then that would do much to avoid trapping water against the barrel. Just get some of the flat and wider sort of lacing stock to allow you to do this job.

The vegetable tanned leather is stiffer. Think in terms of the stuff that is used for holsters. You need that stiffness to prevent the cover from wanting to collapse and creep into a big bunch of loose leather.

To aid in making it less prone to turning to mush from the wet you'll need to give it a good waxing with a good wax based shoe polish inside and out and on all the edges.
