Do you guys that use a soft case for your rifles leave your bipod on during transport? I have been but I'm wondering if I run the risk of damaging the stock or ripping out the sling mount.

I do when I can, and have never had any problems as long as it was a bolt and nut or treaded into a metal block. If you have the woodscrew style stud, the bipod will eventually tear it out anyway. I buy the machine threaded studs by the dozen.:D

I have ripped swivels out of savage-type stocks a couple of times from slinging up, and broken a swivel on an HS-type stock when it came loose, doing the same, but have never had any issues in the case. Should be inert in there no?

I guess it will mostly depend on how the case is handled after it's in there. Here's what it looks like.

I guess I've been lucky since I'm too lazy to remove my bipods before casing the boomstick. I like to use larger / broader/ taller/ wider cases for my 'tactical' style boomsticks so that there is ample room for said accoutrements. :D

Get out and find what works for you/ your budget/ your comfort level/ and your LCV (look cool value) :D

Is there a reason you favor soft cases?

I find them to be more versatile for carrying different rifles and it also allows me to carry all my bits and pieces in the same bag rather than having a case and separate bag. I would probably reconsider things if I were to wreck a bunch of my gear because of it.

I like a good drag bag. Lots of storage for all my junk, and it protects my rifle. I take the bipod off and store in its own pocket. Not so it doesn't break anything but I like to keep the dirt out of the case, I find the bipod feet always end up dirty.

Depends on the case and rifle. Some of my rifles wont fit in some of my cases with a bipod. My tactical rifle with the bipod stays on all the time without issues.

x2:confused:

With all the $$ spent on putting together "THE" ultimate precision rig...transporting in a soft case almost seems counterproductive. $50 buck spent at the local Crappy tire can buy a double rifle case which will accommodate rifles equipped with large mm Objective scopes and bi pods. It doesn't have to be a Pelican case or anything that extravagant.

I have that company's green canvas-and-leather company-branded case made explicitly for long bipod-equipped rifles. I like its no-synthetic approach. And a reasonable price...

It ages well, but not the ticket for rough airline handling ... but who does that these days?

They probably no longer ship to Canada ... I couldn't get a set of brass "gun hangers" a few months ago. We're talkin' about two small hooks for hanging an old gun (or a flyrod, or two hats) on a wall!! Go figure.
