So this is it, i've been preparing and thinking about this for more than a month. Going moose hunting in eastern quebec, never have had a moose up to now so really excited about this.

Will keep you guys posted when I come back!!

Well, here's some news,

we were lucky, where we go there isn't that much moose, I called in a cow and her little. I shot the small one to help them procreate... nice 100yards shot right in the spine, with 140gr 270.
Went right down in its tracks, bullet passed trought and did good work. I have some pics if somebody can post them!!

As promised, here are the pics! Congrats on the hunt!!!

Cheers
Jay

Hi Jay! Is that a beer bottle next to the moose? You just got him drunk didn't you???

Enjoy your steaks !

mommabear, That's pilot24's "secret weapon", he places a nice cold 24 of beer in the bush and waits till the moose gets "falling down drunk". (Notice there is NO BLOOD in the pics...) It's cause the moose is too drunk to resist... ha ha ha... Pilot24 then "poses" the moose for the pics... This is after all, a kinder, gentler society that we live in!!!

Hey... Wait a minute... Most of us guys have used that technique at the bars... ha ha ha...

Cheers
Jay

ohh that looks tasty....

where do you hunt in eastern quebec?

I hunt in the eastern townships.... 45 min east of sherbrooke near the village of... Gould! (I have yet to find anyone that has any clue where this village is)

edit: CONGRATS ON YOUR FIRST MOOSEY!! :D

I know where Gould is... I was a rep at some point in the eastern township...

I went North of Lac Etchemin in Beauce for the hunt. I was told that that calf was pretty small compared to normal. We guessed about 350-400 pds alive. It was sure hard to drag by hand....

The meet is not red its pink, it was probably feeding milk still.

Unfortunately the calf was a cow...

Furync: What is the moose population like down there?

Thats gonna be some very tasty treats.......to me shooting a calf is more of a prize than a big bull. Its not to often you see calves, especially once the pressures been on for a while.

It would be interesting to be able to compare the size differences of cow vs bull calves after only 9months of life or so.......
