Lee 1oz 12ga slug load?

I've tried half a dozen different combinations of hulls/powders/wads and I haven't been able to shoot a consistent 6" group at 50yds out of a rifled barrel. Smooth bore actually does a little bit better. No missing wad petals. Is there hope or should I just buy slugs? Cheap Kent slugs group 3.5 inches at 100yds out of the same rifled barrel. The fancy 58cal Remington sabots group 2inches. I would love to get some decent accuracy out of my own load.
 
The lee slug was not really designed for rifled barrels,it will work,but the slug is not spinning to stabilize but using its weight by design...think of a tear drop,heavy end forward,light behind.

I have found you have to really push them....make sure your wad fits your slug,no bulge .....make sure your slug with wad fits your bore...
 
And what causes accuracy loss is the wad imprints on the key drive and stays with the slug to long and drags it around
Some fill the key drive are with muzzle loading grease
Or shot cards or both
This way the wad release from the slug

I think you may really be on to something with that idea.
I have recovered several of my slugs with the AA wad attached.
Can't imagine they fly well with the petals sticking out.

YouTube Fortunecookie LLC, he does a great series on Hull types, Wads, powders. He is and was never able to achieve 40 yard groups less then 4 inch. They are great close in designs and are effective. But if the intent is deer hunt or shoot distance, buy the factory.

I have focused on .690 round ball, and "0", "00" bucket loads and gave up on LEE slugs. I can reach put a lot further using Bubbaroundtrees (youtube) load data, and my 5th Edition Lymon Shotshell reloading guide. The biggest challenge is getting Ballistic Products shotshell components in Canada, I find these shotshell parts are the best and work very well, especially for steel shot loading.
 
My best luck with the Lee key slugs was with the 7/8 oz, with hot glue in the key. However, much better accuracy was achieved with the Lyman sabot slug, to me that's the ticket for 100 yard accuracy. I shot 15 shots in a row into a pie plate at 100 yards which is not rifle accuracy but for a 525gr slug I thought it was pretty decent.

Was that with a rifled barrel or smoothbore?
