Lee 4-20 lead pot modification

I have owned a Lee 4-20 bottom pour lead furnace since the year they came out. I has literally melted tons of lead for me. The only thing I do not like is the pouring handle. I have seen and read mainly on the cast bullet forum of guys converting the pouring handle on their Lee 4-20 pots to the RCBS/Lyman style. This has stopped the dripping famous on the Lee pots, and has made casting a lot easier.
Has anyone in on this forum ever made such a modification/conversion? I would like to do this to mine.

I too would be interested in such a mod....love my Lee pot , but hate the drip... I've tried to make it stop dripping, just to have it to return.
 
my 4-20 lead pot is about 2 years old now and i can't remember the last time it dripped. My 10lber pot on the other hand dripped alot. i would suggest making the handle heavier so there is more force keeping the needle valve closed.

Also i don't melt down just lead in mine, strictly "purified" lead.
 
I got so miffed at the constant dripping that in the end I took all the handle and tap arrangement off, screwed a tight self tapping screw into the spout and now use it with a lyman dipper. Casting is a lot more consistent and faster now.
 
Any time mine leaks it can always be traced back to crud in the outlet. I use a piece of rebar wire bent into an S hook so I can feed it up through the bottom and work it back and forth. Then its good until the next time. The next time can be delayed indefinitely by keeping the crud out of it in the first place.
 
I have two 10 lb production pots they both leak. I ended up removing the plug that allows it to pour and I screwed a small machine screw into the bottom pour hole. I use it with a lyman ladle and it works well.
