Hello fellow casters! A while back I bought a LEE two cavity .44 mold, # 90285. It's a 200 grain round nose flat point bullet. Two cavity as opposed to the six as a trial. Since you use cast bullets only once, it seemed perfectly logical that I would rather adjust my sights and fire a 200 grain bullet rather than the heavier 240's or 255's.
I lubed and sized them to .430, then re-lubed them using Rooster Jacket lube. Driving this bullet faster than 900 FPS means serious leading, so I have decided to powder coat them instead. The new castings will be powder coated but the previous stock has the afefore mentioned process.
Can I wash off the old lube and powder coat?

Throw the lubed boolits in an old pot and cover with water...boil for 10 min...skim the lube off the surface so it doesn't re-attach when draining...now repeat the process again....I do use an ounce or two of acetone or common paint thinner for a quick swish but you seem hesitant to use it so now I would wipe the driving bands (the only place that it is important to have the powder stick) with clean dry cloth.

I only use the above on commercial hard cast bullets that I had bought, if I have my own mold for what I'm cleaning/PC'ing I would just re-melt and re-mold...just as quick in the long run.

Hello Yomomma!
No acetone here. Would a good soaking in warm water dissolve the Rooster Jacket lube?
Yomomma is correct that acetone would be the easiest by a good margin.

You need to get the bullets quite clean for powder coat to work.

A soak and some agitation in boiling soapy water might be enough, or you might need some additional products. The lube will melt and float to the top of the water and you'll need to skin it off.

If it were me, I think it might be easier to melt it all and recast everything.

Try it with a small mount and pc, if it works carry on, i have done this with water only.

I dont use lee 44 mag bullets anymore but a accurate mold (260gr) at .433 and 23gr H110 ( i think its 1300-1400ftp) with tool blue pc.

I dont think i am getting any leading as the accuracy is very good in marlin and redhawk.
