Lee buckshot mold, Experiences ect.

Especially with new lee molds, I scrub with boiling water, detergent and toothbrush, then flush with boiling water. I preheat on top of lead furnace, then dip corner of 6 cavity into lead for 60 seconds. Work fast and preferably bottom pour to keep mold hot. goodluck

whereabouts in BC are you located?
we could try to feed your mold from my bottom pour pot.

I am located in the lower mainland, That sound like a good deal. Ill keep that in mind and well have to get a casting session going. Ill pm u a bit later on.

Thanks guys..
I am going to go test out my loads tomorrow, I also just noticed that it might be the end of the world, so I guess it just befitting of an occasion to go shoot something, not that an occasion is required to shoot something but more so I guess than any other day... :shotgun::shotgun::shotgun: BUT If all goes well( IE. no Armageddon, The Apocalypse, The Zombie Apocalypse and/or TEOTWAWKI)... I will report back and let u guys know... ;);)

Well I went out to shoot today. This is what I got..
Mossberg 535.
Improved cylinder Choke, cast lead 00buck
25m - 24" pattern
15m - 8"
10m - 6"
5m - 2" (or slightly smaller)
Measured aprox. We didnt have any tape-measure with us.
I shot about 20-22 shells.

After reading this thread I couldn't help it and ordered a buckshot mold.
And since I live close to the border I got it in just 3 days. :D

This buckshot mold needs to be well heated before casting. The lead need to be overheated as well to the extent of dropping frosty buckshot. Frosty is good.

Don't pour too fast. If the lead makes it into the next triple cavity it will clog it.
So keep the mold tilted away from the unfilled cavs.

picked up some handles at epps today woo. going to give some slug and buckshot casting a try today. hope it goes well

This was my 1st time casting ever (1 oz lee slug and buckshot)

It turns out you have to get this thing HOT, leave it on the pot for a few mins or dip it in the hot lead for 30 secs to warm up the mold:

If it is not hot enough, then you will get a poor results:

^^^ also, pour your lead directly into the mold cavity and not the sprue plate or it might solidify on the top of of the 1st pellet and not fill out the bottom (took a while to figure this out).

And the end results (slugs and buck):

I have not yet reloaded the buck, but I will likely make 2 pellets x4 layers for a total of 8 pellets, because this is .033 diameter and getting 3 pellets x3 layers might be difficult (depending on wad)
