Lee Classic vs Lee Handloader

No, I mean the small box with the hammer etc for loading. I want a small portable press that is light, not a large one that needs to be put on a board or a bench.
I am still wondering if these can crimp the rounds or not. Will non-crimped rounds in my Guide Gun be harmed by the recoil?

im no expert but i dont think u can get a crimp die for the lee loader. and im looking at my lee catalogue i dont see that the 45-70 is even listed available in the lee loader.

if it were me id get the hand press that way u could also use different dies, with the lee loader its only for one caliber. the lee hand press u can get neck sizing dies and special crimp dies also.

good luck!

If pressed for space, buy yourself a Black & Decker collapsible work bench. Mount your cast iron "O" press like the Lee Classic, RCBS Rock Chucker, etc...to a piece of 2"X6" and buy yourself a couple of heavy duty "C" Clamps from Canadian Tire if you want to reload for your .45-70 without going whole hog on a special built bench, reloading room, etc... Trying to reload .45-70 with a "Lee Loader" or even their handpress is an exercise in frustration and futility and a big waste of money.

The lee loader is an neck sizer and does not crimp, thus bullets can shift in the case from recoil. The lee die set has a crimp die, this will reduce bullet movement.

you can crimp with the hamer loaders you have to turn the thing upside down and crimp in the other end. I have two of them 30-30 and 6.5x55 they work great. the 30-30 is a tube feed and you are verry portable the only propblem is draging powder and led and primers with you..

once you have the bullet seated you take the now completed shell with the decapping die covering the primer (you do not want to set off the live shell) insert it into the sizing die and tap it with a hammer to crimp the bullet to the case. The insructions that come with the classic lee loader are good and walk you thru the whole process. I have a Lee loader in 30-06 and prefer to load my shells that was than using my lee press and die set. I don't have the hand press only the cast press.

just my 2 cents
