Hi all,

I bought brand new a stand alone Lee Collet Neck sizing die for 308, because I heard that these work just as good as neck die with bushing but without the need for lube

Anyways, I have collapsed a couple of cases at the shoulder with it. So I dismantled it, watched a few youtube videos of setup of these, and tried again. 2 more cases collapsed.

Looks like the inside diameter of the mandrel is too tight for the case neck to fit into.

Should I try to expand the mandrel? Is it a manufacturing defect?

Regards

Sometimes if the ram was lifted without a case the collet is compressed a bit and won't allow the case neck to enter it and so collapses the case. If you open the collet a bit this will cure the issue.

Hey, Thanks for that

I just opened it a bit, Now it is putting nasty scratches on the case neck. Can't win if I try

Great, Thanks guys,

I think that I have finally figured this thing out, Got most of the scratch marks out of the case necks with 1500 grit paper

There is hope!

Regards

I had to sand mine alot. The mandrel was finished very poorly and had some machining marks on it. Started with 400 grit went to 800 then 1500 and now its smooth as a mirror and works great. But took some time to get there.

Didn't have to touch the Collet on mine my issue was the mandrel. Either way though finish quality on these dies is rough but for the price and considering you can fix em up fine with sand paper I'm not a unhappy customer.

I finally got it down to presentable condition last night, took a long time since all I had last night was 1500 grit, Might stop by the home depot and get some different grit

It is still leaving marks, not outright gouges though, as when I started
