I assume that is the one off experiment that led to Enfield mags getting an exemption???


But DAMM that is ugly....did it work??
 
That was the machine gun mod they tried.
Didn't go into production IIRC.

The exemption came about in part because so many Enfields were in the hands of Natives, and they were used for sustenance hunting.
A can of worms they sensibly left sealed.
 
Juster, that is a Charlton automatic Rifle, made in New Zealand
Others were the
Reider Automatic rifle made in South Africa
The Charleton Automatic rifle Electrolux model
The Howell developed in WW1, and brought to the attention of the Ordnance board early in WW2 for issue to the Home Guard

The Howard Francis self loading carbine using a 7.63 pistol cartridge
And last of all the Australian self loading rifle M.L.E

All were conversions of the SMLE, and needless to say none of them saw service.
