Hey guys I'm trying to restore a Lithgow .22. I have a half decent barrel on a destroyed receiver, all the wood etc and a 303 bolt. I don't have another No1 .22 here to compare to. I have a few No4 type .22 bolt heads. I have a small lathe and access to a Tig as well as a small mig at home. I'm wondering if it would be possible to make a .22 bolt head out of a 303 one, and if it's possible to build a .22 firing pin?

Thanks!

One way is to cut the firing pin tip off a .303 firing pin, and solder it into the bolthead. The bolthead is then drilled for the rimfire pin. Two diameters. A pin is turned to fit. A .303 firing pin with the tip in front of the flange removed works fine in a .22.

I have a baggie of .22 No.1 SMLE parts that I bought in an irrational moment. I think I mistook them for No.7 parts. Don't cut any steel until I dig them out later today.

You're best to buy a bolt head for your Lithgow project. Tough to make. You can make the striker or long part of the firing pin by cutting back a No1 FP. Best to buy the small FP. Extractor is unique to 22. I might have a 22 extractor. Definitely have the small FP. PM me if you don't get help from the first guy that offerre and I'll look through my parts.. Ron

Just checked my parts. Have a few never issued 22 extractors and small firing pins for the No1 (actually a No2).

Bolt you could modify your existing if you plug the hole and redrill offset like your CNo7...lots of work however may be easier that finding a 22 bolt head.
