I'm hoping some of you Lee-Enfield experts on this forum can help me correctly indentify this rifle.

I believe it is a ".22 Short Rifle Mk.IV (Rifle No. 2 Mk IV*)" as defined by Skennerton on page 489 of his big Lee-Enfield book. I note that he states, "Because some are conversions and others assembled from new components....for more than 25 years, markings may vary". But I think the markings on this rifle are conclusive. The receiver, bolt and stock have matching numbers. The steel peep sight is fairly simple but with some adjustment. It may not help with identification but I note that the bore is in excellent condition.

See photos for further description.

Thanks.

Just a note, the brass stock disc looks to be on backwards. Could be interesting to see if there are any marks on the other side.

Nope, nothing there...and it looks from the condition of the brass that it has been installed this way (you say backwards?) for a very long time.

The ones I've seen over the years have had a countersink for the screw head on one side only. From the picture it looks like the head is sitting proud of the butt disc.

Oh well, sometimes you get lucky sometimes you don't.

That is one very interesting rear sight.I just might copy that idea for one of my rifles :)

It's so simple even putz like me can make it.
