maybe your friend is just clumsy and shouldn't handle firearms in the first place.

That's a new one to me, but then I've only been shooting L-Es since I was ten, and I'm only sixty-four now. Guess there's time,eh?

Never had it happen, never heard of it happening... Maybe on a rifle that's been effed with, but definitely not on a large scale..

This is exactly what I tought. I think he just want to tell me that I had a s**t rifle compare to his ruger....
But it's funny, my group was better and it was my first big game hunt!!! It was the range for checking zero before hunting.

Hold the trigger back, release the safety and the rifle will fire. So will any number of other firearms.
Laddie is just plain ignorant, and does no know what he is talking about.

That's a new one for me too. I don't own a Lee Enfield (yet ;)) but in my army cadet days I never had or seen a Lee Enfield go off accidentally, either the .303 No.4 or the ones converted to .22.

I find the story a little far fetched ...

The thread below is the only Enfield accident I've seen documented with pics and background data. It sounded like a user failure and not a rifle malfunction. ;)

Combining a DP Enfield, a Shooter and a Gunsmith ended up with catastrophic failure!http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=25597

I have seen a lot of pics of Enfields with combat damage, but nothing other than the pics in the thread above in peacetime.

In regards to the latter, Ian Skennerton has started a research thread looking for assistance from the broader collector community.

Research assistance requested ........ http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=26433

Doug

I hate safety's. It implies a safe gun. No gun with a chambered round is safe.
Leave the chamber empty 'til you're shooting, finger out of the trigger guard until you're taking the shot.

But I've never seen a A.D. from a Lee. Not an issue with the design, just one bad part on one gun.

Never heard of such failure, first news for me, i own somes Lee Enfield never had any kind of issues:)

Guy probably has No idea what he is talking about. Maybe he has a habit of squeezing the trigger when he releases the trigger, if thats the case I would not wan to be around that guy.

could also be the result of some home 'tuning' to lighten the trigger. A guy once showed me his old Enfield that did this, and clearly there had been some tampering. He seemd to think it was a 'feature' :runaway:

I made him stop using the gun.
