I have two Lee Enfield actions one has no.4 mk1 stamped on the action. The second action has .22 stamped on it.So,its .22 cal action. Both are Long Branch 1944 actions. My question is would they both have the same strength?
Could you put a .303 cal on the .22 action?

The Canadian 22 No4 actions .....1944, 45, 46 and 53 ......are machined from the very same castings as the 303. If 22 however the machining for the rear sight is quite different and will not allow for the 303 sight to be mounted unless use sleeve the sight ears. What is the serial number on each action? Ron

Just a couple thoughts on the use of CNo7 actions for other calibres.

Jim Duggan, a gunsmith from SK, built several 5.56 (223) for DCRA competition. Was a winning rifle in the early 1990's. Several 7.62 (308) heavy target rifle were built in the 1980's on these actions as well. Wellington Arms Kitchener Ontario sold several hundred of these with Shilen barrels and Anschutz style wood...were very competitive rifles as well.

I don't Know of an problems however the builder always accepts the liability for the manufacture of any firearm.

IMO, Ron
