I'm slowly turning mine into this little folding stock scout.

^^^ That folder is what I was originally thinking of, but the Boyd's wood looks better.

As for caliber, 30-40 would be a rimmed case that uses my existing match 308 barrel, but so does 308British, and the parent case is a perfect fit for the magazine and extractor.

'308British' is new one on me - care to explicate, please?

TIA

I use a conventional 308 neck sizer die. It will size about half of the neck before hitting the case body.

But thanks, you just reminded me of the bushing die. I have one for 308. It might have a large body cavity and then size more of the neck.

One of these days i will phone Lee and order a collet die with a 308 sized mandrel. I have a 308 collet die, I should try it, too.

And yes, 308British is a 303 case with a 308 bullet. I suspect this is what some American ammo companies were actually making at one point. It interests me because I have a number of used 308 match barrels that can be re-chambered and installed on #4 actions and because I have a fair quantity of 303 brass and 308 bullets.

Well.... Now I want one LOL 308 british that is :D
My goto hunting rifle is a custom no1mk3 I built from parts, receiver on up. Shaved and crowned the barrel at 18.5. Refitted a very nice checkered hunting style walnut stock from a bent barrelled #4 and bedded it to the no1mk3 lithgow receiver that was already drilled n tapped when I bought it.
Mix matched bolts and bolt heads purchased in EE and marstar to a very nice headspace.
She's one hell of a fast handling, well balanced and accurate lil rifle.
Fits inside the width of my quad as well so is perfect truck/quad/carry size all around.

I'd like to build another one over winter... Any info on sourcing a .308 bore barrel that would thread to my no 1 mk3 receivers would be appreciated, and any other necessary stuff like where to get a reamer... Or who to send it to for chamber reaming.
I wonder.... Would .338 federal be possible using a .303 case.... Hmmmmm google here I come :D

I think a 35British would be good
The Epps series of improved .303br cased cals. ... really put some serious steam into a LE.
A .35 Epps is right in there with .358 Win., approaching 35 Whelen.

My No4Mk1 folding carbine though, is staying .303. It's seen me through thick and thin for so long now.

Well, that's all totally unheard of to me, and I live here! Who thought of THAT one?

Any history would be much appreciated, especially of commercial manufacture by US ammo companies. I should add at this point that I'm not entirely a beginner at this shooting stuff - I started shooting at age six, and that was 61 years ago. I also spent 33 years in the Army.

tac. learning something every day.
