Good day all

I saw a guy in Namibia who came up with a pretty good truck rifle idea.
What he does is shorten the barrel on old Lee Enfield rifles.
Then takes a R4 folding stock and adapt is to fit a Lee Enfield add a pistol grip and voila, a cheap super handy truck/hiking rifle. (although really ugly)

So I have this bubba'ed LE that is not getting used and thinking of converting it to somthing like this.
I assume it will be impossible to find a R4 Stock in Canada, so is there another type that will work that you are aware of?
Also what can a guy do for a pistol grip?

I would suggest buying a ATI stock or something similar with the pistol grip already on it and then make up an adaptor for it to fit the socket on the Enfield.
You'd probably want the stock to swing the other way though eh? ;) :p

IS the rifle in the picture yours?
Is there any issues I should know about (accuracy, recoil etc.) that a guy should keep in mind?

No, not my rifle. I found the picture at Special Interest Arms website. I'm pretty sure Marstar and Elwood Epps carry ATI stuff. Probably a bunch of others dealers do as well. I can't be much help other than that. Good luck with your project.

Give a call to MilArm or P&D in Edmonton. Both carry a pretty good selection of ATI accessories. I did this a few years ago to a Rem 760. It was convenient but not as solid as a one piece stock so I changed it to a Rem 870 pistol grip stock. I like it much better.

I imagine it wont be as sturdy but I am thinking, I'll use this primarily for bow hunting in Bear country. so something super compact is required.
How does the stock attach to your 760?
I have no clue how they work.

Rem 870 to Rem 760 was easy because they are both Reminton so they both use the same mounting bolt. The 870 stock was a little oversized where it meets the action, but a little filing and sanding and it fits real nice. Mounting isn't difficult because all you have to do is remove the bolt that comes with the stock and substitute a bolt with the proper thread for your .303. The difficult part will be getting a stock that is beefy enough to cover the area so that you don't have gaps, and getting the right angle so that it's comfortable.

I think it would be very practical for bow hunting, hiking, camping r just in the truck as a handy rifle that is easy to get in and out of the cab.
Why spend 100's of $$$ on a compact new rifle if this can do everything you need it to out to 300Yards or so.

I imagine a gunsmith could make it all work and would know which stock will work best.

Shooting that folding stock'ed Lee-Enfield would hurt something awful.

Yes legal where I hunt, lots of people do it.
It probably will kick like the devil but add that it wont see high volumes of shells, it should be alright.

One problem I may run into is finding a stock that folds to the left of the rifle (ie. away from the bolt)
Now I am starting to think it may be easier to have one made rather than buying one.
I am no metal worker but I am thinking 6mm round bar, shaped in the correct form and then a piece of flat metal added at the back to which the recoil pad fits.
Only think I have not figured out is the side with the hinge on.
 
I was surprised you did not pick one up in SA. They have a stock set with a R4/5 stock and pistol grip on it. I thought it was a good idea. I have only seen one and it was brought back by a friend after going to SA to teach a small arms course.

Could kick myself right now was in SA a few months ago, should not have been too hard to find then again had to go through the US. Imagine trying to go through US security with that in your luggage.

Screw the torch on the end I am going with a red-dot sight and a picatinny rail.

Seriously though it will at least have Iron sights.
Maybe Noel will like it so much that he'll want one too.
