I am looking for a gunsmith with Enfield knowledge and experience. Preferably in the Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand/Norfolk area. I have a “BLR” marked Jungle Carbine that I would like looked over.

The only Lee Enfield smart gunsmith I know who isn't a hundred years old, is Stuart in Regina. If you Google search for words like that, you'll find him. He's not a sponsor, so it is bad form to post his name.

Well worth the visit to Vulcan, the mini museum and projects he’s working on. Last time I was there he was going through m1 garand sticks made out of hackberry. I’ve had him do refinishing black oxide over park and it came out excellent.

If you are just looking for someone to take it apart, check that everything is within specs, make sure it works as good as it can and tweak what needs tweaking, there are a few folks here who are more than capable of giving your Lee Enfield a good tune up.

Lou

Thanks for all of the responses and pm’s. A bunch of great contacts for sure, much appreciated!
My understanding is that “BLR” painted on the stock means beyond local repair. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I inherited the gun long ago so don’t know it’s history. It’s all matching and looks fine but want a second opinion before trying to shoot it! Could very well have been fixed already, who knows.

Hi Thunderstruck. You are correct. BLR means beyond local repair Almost always painted on the butt. It could mean something simple like
a part replacement. You are right to have it checked out. John

John is correct again.
Beyond Local Repair. Army weapons techs in commonwealth use that term to back load from 1st to 2nd to 3rd line maintenance.
You should have brought it to Niagara Sportsman Show last Fri St Kitts, lots of Lee Enfield people there.

Wise choice gunsmithing or something like that is the grand son of ellwoodepps ellwoodepps Epps was the go to guy for lee endfields he is on highway 11 I believe..... google him.

I was at the Niagara show, first time there though, didn’t know what to expect really.
I’m definitely going to get it looked at. Thanks again for all of the references, much appreciated!

In Canadian service I believe BLR stands for "Backload repair". It means the same thing: Whatever level of maintenance the item is currently at, it needs to go to a higher level (2nd, third or 4th line). Then there is BER, which meant "beyond economic repair". That is when the repairs would cost more than the items present value, based on usage and age.
