Lee-Enfield in 7.62x39?

If the magazine was originally for a semi, it is limited to 5 rds. I haven't done a Lee Enfield yet, but that is a matter of time since I got the reamer and gauge.
I have heard of 7.62 conversions being done without a reamer, by just shortening the .303 chamber. Apparently this is workable.
The first LE project will likely use an original barrel recut to breech up with a Savage style barrel nut.

So has anyone tried to bring one of these conversions/rifles into Canada. As I would be really interested in the Delisle Carbine non Suppressed.

Why not just buy a CZ 527 Carbine cal. 7.62X39?
5-round detachable magazine and pretty good looking in my opinion

The CZ is a fine rifle. So is the Ruger Mk.II, and the Zastava made Mini Mauser, if a bolt action 7.62x39 rifle is desired.
It is also fun to experiment. There are scads of cheap, thoroughly bubba'd Lee Enfields.

Has anyone here attempted/successfully done this?

I found this link interesting: http://www.specialinterestarms.com/index.php?page=enfield_conversions.

Not sure if they sell the stuff. I did the similar project, but never finished (no time): have all parts, but never put it together (new walnut stock, new barrel (need some modification for ejection), new bolt parts, adapter, AK single stack mags). Note: you still need to limit AK mags to 5, I just riveted mine.

I don't get it either. If you want to shoot 7.62x39 there are a lot of old milsurps out there designed to do just that and and for usually less than an Enfield. By the time you get the thing to extract, you're still not going to get the thing to feed worth crap with a .303 magazine, so now you've got that to work on, or else use it single shot which seems fairly pointless. The SKS owners will have eaten all of the cheap surplus ammo by the time you get it sorted.

Thanks I'll just reload my .303

Some folks just like to build stuff, and to try different things.

I personally don't see a problem with this.

Variety is the spice of life, and the more neat guns out here in Canada the better. :)

The reason I want a Lee Enfield in 7.62x39?

1). The Lee Enfield is a classic rifle . . .
2). There aren't a lot of milsurp options for 7.62x39. There's, let's see, the SKS . . . and . . . the SKS . . . and the Rashid and CZ858. . . and the SKS. Rashids and the CZ858 are expensive, and the SKS is not overly accurate. All three rifles will likely be banned by the Lieberals within ten years since they are semiautomatic, while the Lee Enfield has a history of being given exemptions from otherwise restrictive gun bans, and will probably be around forever, in some form or another.
3). Commercial 7.62x39 rifles are the CZ bolt (hard to find, and not cheap), single shot Rossi and H&R rifles that supposedly can't handle military primers, the expensive and allegedly inaccurate Mini-30, and that JW-103 Bush Ranger that is sold out everywhere and doesn't even come with iron sights. None of these rifles are value-priced like a Stevens 200 or something in that range, while surplus Lee Enfields are cheap as free - especially if you are getting one with a shot-out barrel.

Now, the whole conversion may end up costing a bundle, true. But most of the other options have at least one drawback. If someone made a reasonably priced conversion kit for the Enfield, like you can buy in the states for Mausers, I bet it would fly off the shelves in Canada.

I have one. Works very well. The magazines are Romanian single stack ones and 5 rounds is all they hold, though you can also find 10 round ones. Quite a bit of work on the bolt, some work on the reciever, Completely different magazine well.
The rifle was chopped when it was given to me so nothing was lost by converting it.
