Lee Enfield Lower Stock Question - Restoration

I was given an No 4 Mk1/2 Sporter in the summer for birthday, one that was sitting in someone's attic. Just getting around to getting all parts (only missing a magazine now) and started a bit on the work (was missing a rear sight, it wears one now).

The lower stock (got a stock kit from Numrich, all mismatched but I'll strip the finish and work to refinish with BLO and a bit of colour so they match as close as possible) seems to be set up a bit differently than the sporter that was on it.

The receiver/action sat in the sporter, and just lifted in/out. The sporter lower stock has a notch cut out of it, whereas the Numrich lower is solid wood across the rear, with a metal band.

I'm thinking of just removing the band and notching stock, as the sporter was.

Thoughts?

The stock you bought is for the no4mrk1. You need one that fits the mrk1/2 with the cross bolt. You can cut it out but it wont look proper without the rear band or crossbolt. If you know what type of wood it is it shouldnt be to hard to plug it then drill it out. I have done it before to a sporter stock and you ccould always tell.

Why not sell you Mk1 stock on EE and purchase a MK2 stock. It will save you a lot of work and possibly "mucking up" your current forend. Ron
