I'm sure this has been discussed before, if so please post a link to the thread.

Just got myself a beautiful sporterized Enfield (asking price was $100, I couldnt beleive it either...). I know the mag is exempt from the federal laws, but can you take a 10-round mag out hunting in Ontario, or do you need to adapt or pin it or what? Anybody know?

You do not need to pin any centerfire rifle other than a semi. The 10 round mag in an enfield is perfectly legal to hunt with in Ontario, there is no need to pin a win 94 to 5 rounds, why should this be any different for the enfield. The only rifles that need to be pinned are centerfire semi-auto rifles and this is a federal law. Mind you there are exceptions to this rule, for example the Garand is legal federally with an 8 shot enbloc and you are allowed to use this 8 shot semi for hunting in Ontario. There is a max capacity rule for shotguns though, 3 shots in total (chamber and mag) for any shotgun, again a federal migratory bird law that has shifted into the rest of the species.

I hunt with my Enfield all the time and always carry 10 in the clip.
It's nice to not have an extra clip or loose rounds to carry when you have 10 rounds ready to go in the rifle.
You sure notice the weight of this set-up when you're walking ridges or cutovers though---it gives you new found respect for our boys that lugged these things all across Europe!!!

My LE No.5 has a 10 shot detachable MAGAZINE. :)

Code:
You must plug a semi-automatic or repeating shotgun so
that it will not hold more than a total of three shells in the
chamber and magazine combined. Under the Criminal Code
of Canada [B][I]you cannot possess any clip/magazine that holds[/I][/B]
[B][I]more than five shots for a semi-automatic centre fire rifle[/I][/B]
[B][I]unless that clip/magazine has been specifically exempted[/I][/B]
[B][I]pursuant to the Firearms Regulations.[/I][/B]

So I'd recommend going belt fed :D .

For hunting purposes-why would anyone need to carry 10 rounds anyway?I've hunted with 303's and 90% of the time 3 shots was the most I've ever fired.About the only time I can think you'd want the full 10 would be in grizzly country-just for insurance

1 for the game and 9 for the liberal tree huggers that come running at you from the cover of there love wagon trying to beat you with thier rubber sticks for killing an animal

i hunt with my 303 all the time and i always cary a full magizine

I always have about 20 rounds on me while hunting with the rifle, I have been lost and things do happen in the bush, why not have too many rather than not enough if something were to happen and you needed them. I am not saying that you will need to shoot things that come after you but if you break an ankle and your matches and lighter are screwed you have the gun powder and a primer, they are part of my survival gear.

or if you're in ontario, crawl the 100yrds to the nearest road and flag down a commuter! :p

Nice, I like that, but remember Ontario is not just Toronto, and they would probably not pick you up, or just take your stuff. I cannot wait to go back into the wilds of Ontario, ya I said it, fishing in June for Pike about 11 hours north of TO.
