Lee-Enfield magazine removal, why not?

Just to note, the svt40 and other semi auto rifles are the same when it comes to mag removal. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Also agree about fast loading with clips. I laugh at all the tapco junk being shoved into sks carbines when clips are faster and more reliable.

"...if soldiers were issued..." The troopies were issued one rifle that was fed with chargers in both wars. However, it was a logistics thing and the Generals not trusting the troopies(wasting ammo, etc.), not about damaging the mag thing. Mags were removed for regular cleaning though.
"...any reason we should not do it in the civi world?..." No. You'd have to pay to replace a lost mag. Makes you careful. A troopie would likely have had to during peace time and training too.

Spare Magazines were originally issued with the Magazine Lee Metford (or Rifle, Magazine Mark 1 as it was known at the time) but were ordered "return to stores" Oct 1890 so the spare magazine is just a 'foot note' in the history of Lee & hardly warrants being mentioned & probably should not be without the full story as this just start myths about troops in battle reloading by changing magazines being the norm in the early days.

The magazine ought to be treated as a box mag to prevent wear and damage. (I curse the RO who unceremoniously "TORE" mine out while it was in rack on a flag change {I had the bloody bolt out!} not good enough for him apparently). For the love of all that is wholly DO NOT let Smellie catch you guys referring to chargers as "clips"...after exclaiming a violent scolding he'll retire to the sock closet and I haven't started to fix my "damned crack" yet, lets not piss him off . 'K? ;)
