Lee enfield marking help

I have been searching everywhere for info on these markings. This is my first Enfield so i am in the process of educating myself. What i know is the gun is all matching serial numbers ( on all metal ) starting with 1 and 5 total numbers. It is a 1944 no4 mk1 made in Maltby. What is throwing me is the BV above the serial number. It also has a Ishapore screw in the stock, which leads me to believe the stock isnot original. Or is it possible the rifle was sent to India?

Marstar has a Lee-Enfield markings page. Under 'Help' then 'Reference Library' then 'Firearm Information'. No BV though. Might be a poorly stamped RV with a missing 'C' or 'R'. Brit Unit stamp.
Or a poorly stamped 'HV'.
 
Look like a Maltby... A lot of the '43's were marked with "A" or "AA" prefix and believe a "B" prefix would be correct for a '44.

I'm always amazed with the stamping on Enfields. They so often just look like chicken scratches. All over the place, nothing straight, looks like they just grabbed the punches and didn't even look if they were oriented the right way before stamping. I get war expediency, but some are amazingly bad.

I know what you mean especially on later war rifles, but still not nearly as bad as Russian rifles!

did you even bother to look at the picture?

I know you give the wrong answer most of the time but this one takes the cake....



the BV is the first part of the serial number
 
Right now at Castboolits there is a person with the screen name of "mutigunner" and he is handing out information. The problem is mutigunner doesn't cast bullets or even own a reloading press. And the last time multigunner reloaded a cartridge was 1982 with a Lyman Nutcracker tool. Mutigunner has gone by many screen names and drove me nuts with his comments on the Enfield rifle.

There are many midgets sitting at their computers pretending to be giants and their feet do not even touch the ground.

And I have always wondered if mutigunner was sunrays older brother.
