Lee enfield mkv trials rifle info needed

A recently acquired 1924 MKV trials rifle.

It's all correct and matching......bolt, barrel, stock and nose cap.

Bore is excellent.

The brass butt disk has some stampings and I'm not any farther ahead trying to figure out what they exactly stand for.......any ideas??

I'm also looking for the correct front piling or stacking swivel if somebody knows where to find one.

516 is most likely a rifle number or rack number (for storage).

I had a No.1 Mk V at one time and I seem to remember the swivels were the same as the No.1 Mk III.

The back sight used to move back and forth on firing, which may explain the screw adjustment on the No.4 rear sight.
 
The stacking swivels were intentionally removed, so research before replacing. Also the brass disk was discontinued during the Great War and never restarted post war. A majority of these rifles post trials/WW2 were sent to India. For record keeping they were also classified IIRC as SMLE 3’s
 
My Mk V has a stacking swivel and as far as I can see it is identical to a No 1 Mk111 stacking swivel. You can also use a No 1 Mk 111 sling swivel if you cut out a bit in the middle....

No true to say brass disc was discontinued during WW1 as all Mk V had them and they were all post WW1. More accurate to say that the discontinuation of the brass disc on No 1 Mk111* was done from 1916 on as a war expedient measure to make rifle production easier, faster and cheaper when demand was so high
 
Hello Bros. The short piling swivel was approved Dec.7, 1920 and was to be placed on all future new arms (List of Changes 24012). A WW2 army vet will tell you that there was a close order drill for 'Pile Arms' now long forgotten. The steel marking disc for DP arms was illiminated 30 June,1920 (List of Changes 24774) but the brass disc continued (thru all Mk V and MK VI) until dropped as a wartime expedient 1942. Often when new parts weren't available the older long pattern of piling swivel was put on as necessity. It just kills me what some people profess as truth on this forum having limited knowledge and references. JOHN
