Lee Enfield Moose Hunting!

Ah, the .303 British cartridge. The first one size fits all, from elephant, to leopard, to german colonel.

Like plinker 777, I don't intend to offend. Nice moose, I am salivating.

You're dispelling a whole load of "you need high-priced stuff to hunt" myths here...;)...for the better !...

Does anybody really believe that stuff? Seriously? ;)

I will be hunting deer this fall with a Parker Hale No.4 conversion, shooting Federal blue box ammo from CT. Hopefully I can add to the destruction of the myth.

ha ha ha... ya some of the guys up there had some expensive equipment for sure. The best part was the day before we left we had a shoot out. Im no crack shot but these guys were further off on the target then me and they had the 300 wsm's and massive scopes... sad but true!

One time when I had one of my milsurps out some fudd said laughing "what the heck are you going to do with that thing?" I replied "out shoot you..." That is exactly what I did, guy couldn't even clean his own super awesome, high-speed-low-drag, slicker-than-spit rifle...

High end equipment is no substitute for skill, no matter how much somebody spent.

No moose, but I nailed a whitetail buck with my ParkerHale nr 1 mk III .303 using a Hornady 150gr SPBT in a Fed case. It died same as one shot by 7mm Mag.

Bullet placement is a lot more important that size or velocity. There were thousands of moose, deer and buffalo killed with the anemic 44-40, and even the 32-20 and 25-20. Hit a moose in the hoof with a 368 WhizBang UltraMag, and he ain't stoppin'. Hit him in the proper spot with a 30-30, an he's steak. My wife shot a 7-year old cow moose at 220 paces with 3 shots in the lungs, using a Polish AK, and it really tasted good. On the other hand, I've helped track down (and never found) quite a few hit by 7mm Mags and 300 Win's.

I think the big difference is, my wife, and a lot of guys on this forum, as well as the old timers, did a lot of shooting. Too many of the guys with 412 UltraBooms fire 3 shots at a target, figure if they hit, it's good enough, and now they can go out and shoot at 6 miles, with no hold-over, allowance for wind, etc. Then they fire, at most, 2 shells a year. A box of shells lasts around 20 years.

I use 303's,i love the caliber!, one rifle had with a gd barrel is ais gd as any other rifle in its caliber range, i have lee enflields, also a p14 bsa sporter, and a couple of ross rifles, all are ex shooters, i load my own shells, and preferthe hornady 174 round nose, and use either H335 Or IMR4350 , super accurate, and plenty of oomph to knock over anything that walks in north america, if anyone needs advise on loading for the 303 round, or any other round, id be more than happy to share info with you
