Lee Enfield No.4 Mk. 1/2 .22 K Hornet

A friend of mine has a Lee Enfield No.4 Mk.1/2 (F) FTR chambered in .22 K Hornet. Has anyone heard of one of these? It has a standard length/profile No.4 barrel. It even has a military front sight attached. It looks like a standard No. 4 in every way. I would post pics but it looks exactly like the No.4 we all know and love. It has a sportered stock but could be fully restored to military configeration if he had the right parts. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely a rebarrel. 22 barrels were installed and rechambered in 22hornet and 22K Hornet. Somebody sold ammo back in those days. Do use modern day ammo as bore size is too tight for present day loads. Most folks that have one of these hand load.

does it have a bayonet lug? how long is the barrel ?

Barrel is 640 mm and has no bayonet lug. It has a lee enfield mag but the mag has no spring or follower. Its just the mag body. It doesnt eject, the spent casings simply fall down inside the mag body. I will get pics soon as I can.

most likely ,this was a C No.7 barrel ,that was re chambered to 22k hornet. then put on this No. 4 action.

Isnt that a shame. Seems to be very bubba'd. I guess the paint isn't that bad but still needs work. Could be restored to former glory..

Lots of No.7's were converted to K Hornet and many other .22 calibres. I've seen them done from .22 Hornet to 223 Rem. Just remember that the rimfire.22 bore dia. is different than the centre fire.
The reason they were done in K Hornet as compared to the regular .22 Hornet was the regular Hornet was just horrible on brass. Also, the K Hornet had less pressure.
