Lee enfield No,4 mk1 ser Number question

Definitely not a Long Branch number. LB serial would be in the form 1L1234.

The mag started life on a Fazakerly made rifle, though the mag itself could have been produced by a subcontractor.

As a hard and fast rule on wartime No.4 rifles:

4 digit serial numbers with or without a letter prefix are BSA.
5 digit serial numbers with or without a letter prefix and beginning with 1 are ROF Maltby.
5 digit serial numbers with or without a letter prefix and beginning with 2 are Fazakerly.
5 digit serial numbers with or without a letter prefix and beginning with 3 are also BSA.

Some rifles will have an "A" suffix. Do not include this in the digit counts above. the A suffix indicates that at some point one or more non-standard parts were fitted to the rifle when it was first produced. Often this will be as simple as an ersatz safety assembly without the bolt-locking helix.
