Some of you older guys might remember Griffiths Guns & Antiques in Lakefield, On. (just outside Peterboro). I used to spend a LOT of time and money there in the '60's. I was rummaging around in some old files and found a bunch of price lists that Larry Griffith used to send out. I thought this was the place for the Lee Enfield Sniper rifles. A buddy of mine bought one. The box itself was great, the rifle was immaculate and very accurate.

In 1968 a good wage was $125.00/150.00 a week. Tell the wife you blew $85.00 on a surplus rifle and see how long you are at the same address. :)##
Lewis guns were $35.00 in the box with a spare barrel and spare bolt from Modern Gun Shop in Toronto. Ivan Flatmann had a boxcar load of Lewis guns as did Albion Knitting Mills and anyone could register them just like a pistol or revolver as well.
It's all relative....

Pete - was that the surplus place that used to be on Hwy 28 somewhere near Young's Point? I remember as a kid, stopping there. The place was stacked to the ceiling, and you'd be hit by that old canvas tent smell when you entered the building.

anybody know off the top of their head what they go for now ?
$3000.00 for just the rifle and scope in nice condition is not unheard of. And the scope probably will not be matched to the rifle at that price, but everthing will be original. They go for much more $ than that if everything in the original equipment schedule is included, and the rifle is numbered to the scope.

I've never seen one for less than $3k but I've seen some nice matched complete sets for double $3K plus.

About 1970-1972 Lever Arms in Vancouver BC Canada had Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk. I (T) sniper rifles, 1945 dated, NOS in the transit chests, all matching for $100. I waited until his January sale and bought one for $75. By the way, I was a university student and my wages were $100/week at the time. My notes suggest that this one was rifle X32016 with Mk. III scope 28197 (H.M. Co Ltd). I carried it on a Canadian Army exercise at least once (the army was more casual in those days). Wish I still had it. If I could find it I would happily buy it back. I have a nice matching SN 1851 Navy Colt Upper Canada issue marked ... ;-)

Presently have a 1943 BSA one that likely saw action. Rifle/bolt match, but scope Mk. I is not the original one for this rifle.

Savage No 4 'scopeless" T 2000.00-2500.00
Brit (BSA) matching with transit case, and scope tin 4000.00-6000.00
Longbranch matching with transit case and scope tin 10000-15000.00
Aussie HT ( rifle/scope ),,, if you can find one 8000.00-12000.00

Ah the famous After Boxing Day Lever Arms sale by Alan Lever. Everything in store was 15-25% off his already low surplus tag price. No exception.

Yes, that would be Mackay's Surplus...... You are right, stacked to the ceiling, but they knew where everything was.

Cheers,
