Okay I took my No 5 to the range and shot off a steady bench to zero. I used the micrometer set at 200 yards and shot federal 180 grain. At 100 yards it shot a pretty darn good group but it was 14" (yes fourteen) above the POA. I believe the MPI should be 3.5" above the POA @ 100 yrds for a No 5. So I need a new front sight post to correct this, according to this site:

h ttp://www.enfieldrifles.profusehost.net/ti12.htm

I need a front post that is 0.090 higher. The one on there right now is already a 0.045 (which is pretty high isn't it?) so that puts me at a new front post height of 0.135. Do they even make them this high? Am I doing something wrong?

Please explain

If you set the mic at 200.....shot at 100....and you are 14 inches high, why dont you lower your sight to 100:eek:

did I misread your post?

When I zero my enfield I set at 100....shoot at 100...Now the battle sight is different,it roughly shoots 6ish high at 100,keep in mind the ammo used is 174gr ball,or reloaded to 174 gr spec!!

I was using it set to 200yards but shooting at 100. It should be 3.5" above POA because I had it set at 200. My rear sight dosn't have a mark for 100 yards. Instead of it being 3.5" above POA is was 14". But it did group well.

Edit: Oh yeah and this was with federal 180 grain. How much will this effect the results compared to 174gr military ball?

I reviewed my JC sights...It might not have a 100 setting ,but it does go down.It seems to me that mine is smak on at 100 yards in this setting with 180 gr rem bulk, 91/2 rem primer,IVI case and some WC852 powder(aprox 2350 fps)...it is around 2" high with ball ammo(174 gr).....And yes they make front sights high...I have some tall ones(LB).Give it a try, what do you have to loose:dancingbanana:

This prob. won't help much as this company is in Germany.

Gottfried Prechtl makes "elevated" front sight replacements for the Enfield, presumably to tackle this very problem - WT02802; SQUARE POST for ENFIELD (elevated) - not to mention a lot of other neat stuff.
