I have two buttstock which I don't know if they are for No.1 or No.4.

Anyone could help ?

A LongBranch No4 buttplate fit both very well.

Thanks
Eric

EDIT

I actually have 3.

Here are the picture.

One seems like a british that would fit either a no1 or no4.
One looks like a Long Branch no4.
Third seems like a No1 Bantam stock. (No.4 buttplate doesn't fit.)

Am I right ?

not really sure if this helps but the No1 mk III butt stocks were usually longer then the no4 mk I

Incorrect, there were multiple lengths of stock produced xs, s, l, xl and some more even In between.

The top one is for a number 1, bottom for a number 4, although the you can make them fit to either with a chisel.

The front top left side of the No1 butt is recessed for the safety catch much more than the No4.

Of the pictures you offer of the socket end, #'s 1 and 3 look like butts for the No4 MkI rifle. The middle or second pic looks like a butt stock for the No1 MkIII

Ah, I'll defer to those below. It's been awhile since I had mine off.

The round one is for no4, the one with flat edge is for no1. Butt plate for no4 and no1 are different but some mk3 butt stock made in ww2 and during post war FTR are inleted to receive the no4 buttplate.
You can also check the safety hole. half round = mk3 and the straight is for no4.

Round one was indeed for a No4 (Longbranch)

Both others are for a no1. Tested various buttplate on them and found out that the cutout at the top is actually different. Buttplate from a no4 fit on a no1 but doesn't look too great at the top.

The last one was actually a mohogany butt. It fits awesome on a lithgrow that I had in the gun cabinet. (it had a mohogany foreend + handguard but a walnut butt)

Will try to get some pictures to you.
