I've been reading all the info in the stickies but man, there's a lot to process.

I've got a sporterized Lee Enfield No4 Mk1*. The receiver is stamped "No 4 Mk 1* Long Branch 1943", but the barrel is stamped "Made In England", with the crown-DG cross, and "43".

Was this rifle re-barreled at some point?

Thanks for any help.

Could have been rebarrelled. Dates are weird...43 and 43.

Is the barrel original as in not cut? Could be a different barrel that was made in england in 43 and re-barreled later on.

Don't know but someone on here will.

Pretty sure the barrel has been cut - assuming they're measured from chamber to muzzle, it's only 610mm long, and it's been turned at the end to fit the front sight.

Of course, I've never seen a barrel on an original Lee Enfield so this might be normal.

The rifle was sported in England, that is why the Made in England mark is there.
The 43 on the barrel is the date the barrel was made. Makes sense on a 1943 rifle.

That's what I was kind of thinking. So this rifle was made in Canada, shipped to England, sporterized after the war, and then re-imported to Canada?

The fellow I bought it from said his father purchased it at a surplus store in Montreal in the 50s.

Thanks for all the help, guys.
