Just received my first Milsurp firearm. Just a quick question concerning the stock: is it normal for the LOP to only be 12.5"? Seems rather short.

I'm pretty sure the stock is not original as it does not match the front wood and it has a brass butt plate instead of the hard rubber recoil pad. It does not appear to be cut as it has the original brass butt plate and it is fitted rather well. I suppose it COULD have been cut from the front, but seems like it would be a lot of work to get it to fit just right.

Are stocks with longer LOPs available? I don't care if it was originally designed for a MkV or not, just as long as its LOP is closer to 14".

Besides posting a want add on the EE, were can I get one?

I'd post pics, but I'm sure you've all seen a MkV before.

I've never seen or heard of a brass butt plate on a No5. so from what you are describing you most likely have a No4 Mk1 butt stock on a No5 rifle. If I'm not mistaken I believe they are interchangable. The No4 butt stocks were made in at least 3 different LOP's. Sounds like you have a short one. Sourcing a replacement #5 may be harder than a #4. Trade Ex (see their link in the sponsors section at the top of every page) have No4 butt stocks for sale ($20) and if you call and talk to them they can probably pick a longer one if they have it. The brass butt plate will be interchangable so all you need is the wood.

Sorry, still getting my numbers and marks in order.

I think I meant to say that you've all seen a #5 before... right?

And yeah, I realize that I have a bit of a "Franenfield", but waddya-gonna-do...?
