Hello all I am having an issue I'm wondering if you can tell me the size of the rear sight leaf spring screw threads? Oh and it shouldn't be wobbly and pull out with fingers right?? Hahah
My rear sight screw it will not screw in at all I'm trying to figure out what size tap I need to try to chase the threads and the die also for the screw
There is some data on the net about the SMLE thread pitches, but It's a dog's breakfast with obscure threads.
It was made with non-standardized threads from the 1800's, that only the early factories used.
IIRC, one of the trigger guard screws has a 37 tpi pitch.
I don't recall ever seeing a lathe that can cut 37 tpi.
When designing the No. 4, they went to some BA screws.
I doubt you'll find a tap for it easily, and you may find that epoxy is your friend.
The best solution may be to re-tap the hole for the nearest larger standard US thread size and use a more common screw. Even then, it will be a very small screw and not commonly available in your local hardware store. Or, as slug suggested, just epoxy the damn thing. It's not like you ever have to remove this little screw.
