Hey folks I was taking apart a friends No 4 rifle to do some work on it and this part dropped into my lap.

What do I have here?

Prior to the above falling into my lap I removed the side screw on the receiver and prior to that I removed the rear sight.

Drop me a PM.
 
Spring and plunger for the rear sight, the sight will be all floppy without it though I can't see how it could have fallen out unless the sight was removed.

Yeah I did remove the rear sight. Im assuming the steel plunger and spring give the rear sight the necessary tension.

Where does that "O" ring piece go?

The "O" Piece goes on the sight cross-pin, on the bolt-handle side of the receiver. Without it, the whole sight device will drift from left to right, as it leaves a gap. Should look like this

Left Receiver Stud, Sight, O piece, Right receiver Stud

I have seen spacers on rear sight that were made of sheet metal. Maybe it was to tighten up a worn-out rear sight.

Here we should note that the Cdn pressed sight, unlike the British ones, has a full-width base and doesn't require the bushing.
 
The little retaining pin is a specific diameter too, so don't just casually sweep off the workbench into the waste basket.
