I have a No.4 Mark I Longbranch 1942 and it has "MP" stamped onto the left side of the receiver.

What does that MP mean?

Its a full wood stock, all original, cleaning kit is gone from the storage place in the buttstock tho....

Thanks guys. Im Milsurp hopeless........

Yes, although in the Army "MP" is an abbreviation for Military Police, rifles issued to them wouldn't have been so stamped. The R.C. Mounted Police had some of these rifles and they were stamped MP.

The "cleaning kit" is fairly easy to replace, really all it consists of is an oiler (oil bottle) and pull through with wire gauze (these -pull through and gauze- are available new, and the oiler is a hobby all on it's own, but there are lots out there)

I would give my left nut for one of these rifles.

I love the Lee Enfields to begin with, but there is something distinctly 'Canadian' about having an ex-RCMP rifle - that history appeals to me far more than the standard British or crown colony history.

Isn't a rifle built in Canada at the Long Branch arsenal and used by the Canadian Army in WWII and Korea Canadian enough for you?

Thanks again to Superbee for telling me about this rifle. It's like new.
Appears to be a green parked Long Branch FTR by the colour-look at the contrast on the handguard steel. It's quite subtle though, you almost have to look at the pics to see it.
