I was chatting with a buddy about some wild ideas with a 410 and some slightly higher pressure. He mentioned that people use a Marlin in 444 and can convert to 410, it is all about the designation in shotgun only areas here, that is the thought on this job anyway.

The thought came to my head, with all the sporter enfields laying around might it not be easy enough to rebarrel a Lee Enfield with a .429 barrel and ream the chamber to 410 bore. You should be able to seat a .429 bullet deep inside a 410 magtech brass case, I think they have a large enough ID for that.

You could essentially get a 44 Rem Mag out of something marked 410 bore, maybe a little hotter.

I know, crazy ideas, I was not the one who started it, ha ha.

I have an LE charmbered in 410 and another in 44mag.
The 410 is smooth bore and i reamed the full length LE barrel and put a full choke in it and the 44mag is a winchester barrel using a barrel nut to convert the threads. I also have a LE's chambered in 25-20, 32-20 and 38-40.

Ok, the issue is that in Ontario there are seasons whereby you can only use a shotgun for deer. The idea a friend of mine has is to build a rifled 410 shotgun that takes plastic hulls but he can also use Magtech 410 all brass hulls. The idea is to get a higher pressure 410 with a higher velocity that can use standard 410 slugs or something with a copper jacketed bullet set inside a hull, similar to a 12ga slug with a fully rifled barrel. The idea is to get the power similar to a 44 Rem Mag.

41 Mag and 44-40 are shooting centerfire rifle rounds, this would not be legal, if you could use a rifle he would just use a rifle.

U sure 410 is a legal gauge for your shotgun deer zone/season? In AB you can't hunt big game with shotguns 410ga or less or greater than 10ga.

Can't even use a .28ga and Brenneke makes slugs for that and the .410 The .410 slug is used on deer in some States.

A 410 with slugs is legal in Ontario when shotguns are legal to use. Nothing under 20ga is legal when using shot, 28ga, 410, 32ga, they would all be legal is using a slug in Ontario.

There are actually quite a few people who use them but they are very limited in their range, when you think about it though the guys hunting with a 38-40 or 44-40 are not that far off from a 410 slug.

The idea here though is to chamber it in an action that will take more pressure and in a brass case that will take more pressure, build up some more velocity with a heavier bullet.

Your not following or maybe I'm not leading. Using .410 stamped brass cases have a .41 caliber rifled blank chambered for 3" .410 then you can use .41mag bullets in the .410 cases.Problem solved.

Possibly, it would depend on the size of the inside of the case for sure, I think the 410 brass cases have a larger ID than a standard 410 case but I may be mistaken.

Finding a .41 long barrel blank may be tough to find though.

I take it getting a barrel threaded for an enfield is easy enough, seeing that so many were made and tons of people played with them.

Now, getting a magazine to feed 2.5" 410 hulls may be tougher to figure out, ha ha.

Just the thought is cool, I know it is sort of going around the rules but so was the 1800fps 12ga sabot slug.

You can have a reamer cut to neck a factory .410 so it will grip a .41 pistol bullet or go the other way and get a custom mold for conicles straight up off .410 brass. Come to think of it a 38-40 is actually .40 caliber or 10mm so there's a blank with smaller available bullets off the .410 brass.$$$$$$$$$$$$$ can make it happen

A lot of hypothetical thoughts going on here from my end, I would think if you were getting the speed up enough you could shoot jacketed, just seat them down into the case, make it look more like a typical slug.
