Hey guys,
I need help from you Lee Enfield gurus
So I de-sporterized a No.4 Mk1 which included a newer barrel. I'm having trouble with it. It is shooting 18 inches high at 100 meters. The front sight is marked 0.45
So does anyone know what sight I would need? There is a +1.14 front sight that I can get but would that be good enough.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

I'm not familiar with the exact sight heights versus battle rifle zero but what sight are you using at 100meters? The 300/600 in the 300 position? or the Mark 1 with small peep bottomed out? or the battle peep on the Mark 1 sight?
The battle peep I believe was supposed to give a 300yard zero with MkVII ball ammo with the bayonet attached!! The high (18")100 yard zero is typical for a lot of WW2 milsurp without a bayonet hanging off the end.

You will definitely need a higher font sight if you have your rear bottomed out, there are iron sight calculators on the internet that you can plug in what info you have you know, height of sights above barrel, length of sight radius, and how high or low you need to move in inches, and it will give you the exact front sight height. Check out the one at Brownells. Good luck,

I was just using the regular battle sight (the large peep sight). Its the kind that has a knob that you twist for elevation.

Thanks for the help/info. I may put my bayonet on and see if that brings down my grouping :)

The fore end tip of the No.4 is to have 2 to 7 pounds of up pressure, if the bedding isn't correct it can cause the rifle to shoot high. The bedding should be correct before making any sight adjustments or adjusting the trigger pull.

Read the Enfield No.4 manuals below on bedding and other maintenance requirements.

1991 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Manuals (Complete Set)
http://www.milsurps.com/content.php?r=335-1991-No.4-%28All-Marks%29-.303-Rifle-Manuals-%28Complete-Set%29

NOTE: When the fore stock is not oiled on a regular basis with raw linseed oil you end up with wood shrinkage and bedding changes. Meaning loss of fore end up pressure and the rear draws area bedding needing shimming to correct the up pressure problem.
