I have been toying with the idea of making a thumb hole stock for one of my No 1's. I was just wondering if anybody had done or tried this before and if there was any challenges to doing this.
You’d have to run a bolt through where you have your hand, so you’ll have to make some sort of filler or grip to stop the edges of said bolt hole from cutting into the webbing of your hand under recoil I’d think, but a minor problem that one should be able to devise a remedy to but it might not be a problem st all
If I were to do it I’d try to mod an already made stock that was damaged to save time. Good luck with your project
the things to watch for is you length to trigger ,will need a draw bolt with out head to shape the part that goes into the stock while maintaining the proper angle to fit yourself and of coarse make sure you can remove the bolt with out the stock interfering
also you will need to shape the t/h to fit your hand as one size does not fit all
they do make the LE a lot nicer to shoot scoped
Intresting, wish I had the talent, the ingenuity of people never ceases to amaze me some times, how's the recoil on the bolt hole relief in the web of your hand? Non-issue?
the bolt head is actually rounded and isn't felt with recoil ,its just kinda there and has no sharp edges and a non issue .Kinda like a bump ..The only other thing I would recommend is when ordering the carved stock from Boyds is to order a matching fore end as carving out this one was a pain in the AXX
Ha, I figured that's what you would have done, some times you don't realize time is money until you're too many hours into somthing that would have been better purchased.
the term is pick you battles LOL ,took most of a day to inlet the fore end and if memory serves it was about 50$ at the time ,,, but it was a learning experience .
