I have 3 Lee Pro 1000 presses. The .45 ACP and .357 presses are running okay but the 9mm press is starting to cheese me off. On the upstroke I almost have to two hand the lever to get it to operate. I took it apart last night and cleaned/lightly lubed the 'internals'. I don't see anything worn nor do I see anything bent that would cause it to bind and it wasn't dirty. It even happens when the press has no cases in it. I'm not quite ready $$ wise to upgrade to a Dillon yet. Any ideas, thoughts or comments?

it is critical to have the dies adjusted dead on.
more than likely its the flarring/power through that is getting stuck/ adjusted to tight.
they way I set mine up was. 1) set up the full size decap die first. when that is perfect. Set up the bullet seat and crimp. So its perfect. Then move on to the flarring/powder drop. This is really tricky. If it too much you will get the problem you have now. Not enough and you will get missed powder drops and not enough flare to properly seat the bullet.
PS I love my lee's and they are good for the $$ but I have upgraded to a dillion for my 9mm I load a ton of 9's and need more uptime.

+1. 9mm's tapered case also makes it more difficult than the others. If you try a bit of spray lube on those cases before they go into the machine, you'll be astonished at how much easier 9mm can be.

That's great guys but he said it happens when there are no cases in the press.
Was this a problem from new? Sounds to me like the index bushing might be worn or there is something stuck between the shell plate and carrier. I have had two pro 1000 presses, still have one in .38 good little machines for the money.

i'd go with something stuck- best pull the head and take it apart, change out the ratchetgear( the small one) - do the procedure same as if you were to change shellplates- then change the gear, whether it "looks " ok or not- take the shelplate from the carrier,just like it says in the manual- see if there's anything stuck between the two- and while you've got the head off ck the ram to see if it's binding
Okay, I've taken the press apart again and took the shell plate off this time. There is nothing stuck between the shell plate and the carrier and the ram moves smoothly without the head and carrier. As a precaution I changed the ratchet gear (two spares were included with the press). The press is running better!!! THANKS to everyone here for responding and extra honors to t-star. What I did today was the basically the same thing I did last night with the exception of inspecting under the shell plate and changing the ratchet gear.....I would've bet my first born that it was okay. I think I've aged 10 years and am taking the evening off to enjoy a couple of cold ones.....
