Hey there , considering getting into reloading and have been reading quite a few articles on it and feel comfortable with getting some sort of equipment. right now i only have 2 firearms , a 40sw and a .308 .

My question is in regards to a classic lee loader for my .308 . The rifle i want to reload for is Semi automatic and i understand lee says the classic shouldnt be used for semis because it only neck sizes , however if i were only reloading for 1 rifle would the classic neck sizing be fine as the brass would already be form fit to my chamber ? I dont intend at this moment to create .308 that can be used in any rifle , just my main rifle.

I was also looking at the hand loader as i can buy the dies .
 
I would go with the hand loader. l started with one and still use it sometimes. By using regular dies you can do a complete resize or neck size if you want. Since you are using a semi auto, neck sizing may not work well for you. If your round is a little tight, your bolt may not lock up completely and it won't fire. Sooner or later you will have to do a complete resize so might as well be ready.
 
^^ get the handpress. I also have one and use it quite a bit for seating and crimping, but I have also used it every stage of reloading, however, it is not a good puller.
You will not have good results with the classic loader. You must F/L resize for a semi and then accept that your brass will not last as long.

both the classic and the handloader can be effective for small quantities of ammo. But your 40sw will want more :D
Don't cheap out, get at least a Lee Challenger kit with the proper die kits.
 
"...only reloading for 1 rifle..." Doesn't matter. Semi-auto's(lever's and pump's) require full length resizing every time. Has to do with feeding.
 
I have the Lee Classic Loader, Hand Press and Breech Lock press/kit. I would recommend the Breech Lock/or 50th Kit to begin reloading for semi auto over the hand press or loader.
