I used mine that came with my 50th Anniversary kit for 2 1/2 years and 1000's of loads.
Worked great until I dropped it on the floor and broke the beam!
Probably buy another one just to verify the Digital I am buying soon.(Thinking Jenning Mack 20)

Funny you should mention that,I've alway's thought to myself,"self, you gotta pick up another LEE scale as a backup.Just in case".
When people buy a car, they don't buy the the cheapest POS out there.
When people buy a house, they don't buy the worst dump in a bad part of town.
So why, when buying reloading equipment, do they buy the cheapest equipment, including powder measuring equipment, this is important safety stuff my friends.....scales that don't work, dippers, primers exploding when priming, presses springing and or breaking, C'mon!

I destroyed my Lee scale in a fit of rage shortly after unboxing it. I dislike everything about this kit, aside from the fact that it can make ammo.
I'd bet that people who like Lee products also like modern Savage rifles. Let the games begin.
BTW, I have since been happily using a 5-0-2 I bought from member "Doug".

Cheap does not automatically = POS
People tend to buy the cheapest house in the best neighborhood they can afford.
Scales work fine, better than some more expensive brands.
More accurate anyway.
The only primer explosions I have personally been near were both on Dillon presses.

Believe it or not, not everyone can drop a thousand dollars to get in to reloading.
Equipment snobs are as bad as Gun Snobs, or motorcycle snobs or really any snobs who base value purely on cost.
Probably. They both attract people who prefer bang/buck over high prices.
If I only had a buck for everyone who made fun of my Norinco/Lee stuff because it's "Junk" and I needed to spend more, who had just stepped out of a rusted domestic car on it's last legs. Or the guy that we would inspect who had the best fishing rod in the world and ancient lifejacket held together by duct tape, in a boat that's rotten and a half-dead motor, yet he rails on about buying "quality". In the real world people have to compromise on what they buy because the average person can’t afford to have the best of everything.
The real reality is many people live on a very tight budget, where $50.00 difference means no shooting for a couple of months, or the kid needs cavities filled or the car needed repairs. Lee has survived and flourished in a country where lawsuits are rampant and lots of competitors, so I don’t buy a lot of the claims people make about them.
Does there stuff have issues? Yes, but then so does the Horndy LNl I just bought and I can’t say their case feeder is anymore reliable than a Lee, but it did cost close to 10 times as much.
It's not equip. "snobs", over time some things work well other things don't, and i only report on my findings, and I've reloaded a ####load of ammo. I will always "tell it like it is", even if some don't like to hear it. Folks new to reloading should get the full story!!
I am not a Lee fan so to speak but I really don't think that bashing the name in general or any product for that matter serves any useful purpose other than to increase the basher's post count.
I know several fellas that started into reloading using Lee products for the simple reason that they couldn't afford any more expensive and / or better.
As time passed some of these guys went to different and better equipment just the same as a lot of people today will once they get the feel of reloading and decide whether they like it or not. Personally I'd hate to spend a fortune on something only to find out I did not like doing it.
These same men probably have families to support and quite possibly couldn't afford to start reloading by purchasing top -end equipment.
No doubt some of the tools are not a good choice for a beginner, but we are not helping that same fellow by bad-mouthing the entire brand name.
Instead we as experienced handloaders and boolit- casters should be suggesting affordable alternatives.
And when these guys have the bucks to do so and know what they want, then go ahead and buy the Dillon or Forster Co-Ax, the digital scales, all the good stuff.
Just my 2 cents worth absolutely no criticism of Ben's or anyone elses opinions.... as Ben said has done a ton of reloading.

i have the lee and a ohaus 5-0-5.
never had a problem with the lee except that it takes forever to settle down each time.
the ohaus on the other hand is faster but less accurate. by lightly lifting or lowering the tray it will stay off zero by a couple of lines. never happen with the lee.
i tried every thing to prevent that with the ohaus to no avail.
any suggestion?

There have been several others but at the end of the day the lil challenger press and scale from the 50th kit are never beyond arms reach when I'm at the bench... I can afford the best of the best but the cheapest of the cheap work just fine for me.

RCBS 5-0-5 has never let me down.
If you're having problems with a beam-type scale, go digital.

BAHhhhha ha ha! Oh?! You were serious about going digital.....
Got one of those RCBS digi scales for my dad last Christmas....was using the lyman beam scale by new years. Not weing the same charge twice as the same weight was the problem.
Put a match grade bullet on it and found out that it weighed 147gr, then 147.5, then 148,back to 147?! Same bullet in the lyman beam tipped at 150gr...which is what its supposed to be.
The more expensive ones MAY work better but I'm not willing to spend twice as much money to find out they don't really.
As for the lee...if you can't get it working right I'm sorry to say but you will be disappointed with its target performance too.

I found that LEE makes some good stuff and a lot of gimmicy crud.
For instance.
LEE melting pot ++ why pay more for a RCBS etc? Pretty hard to F*** up a heating element
LEE 762x54R dies, a little bit rough but for the price, come on its an 80 year old russian war rifle not a $3000 match gun. I only neck size any how.
LEE auto advance turret pistol press, for the money, ya OK. Ever see what a comparably featured Dillan is worth?!
LEE bullet molds, ya not so good. But for $28? Mmm may be to try a style out before investing in a good cast iron mold. Gets you going.
LEE shot gun reloading press LOL PLASTIC & ALUMINUM!!!! LOL ya NO.MEC all the way!
LEE universal case neck ex pander die, for $15 hell ya!

Lots of stuff that LEE makes, and is cheap! If you need precision they are not the best company to look at but they have some useful stuff that is affordable.
Lyman is a good compromise between quality and affordability.
I use an Oarnge Crush 11 press that came as a kit with miselanious tools.....including a 500 scale.

I also bought the breech lock kit.......wishing I would have spent the extra $ on a rock chucker kit instead. The press itself is fine, although light, but all the accessories that came with it are complete crap. The "perfect" powder measure leaked ball powder out of every single seam available, the safety scale was really finicky (blade would stick to the magnet and then suddenly release, balance nut would "creep" every once in a while), the hand primer has never worked properly (primers won't feed consistently, handle jams), and the primer pocket cleaner and chamfer tool were dull after about 500 rounds. Seems to be a case of getting what you pay for, I won't even try to sell this stuff.
Slowly but surely replacing everything with RCBS and Lyman tooling. The first purchase was a digital scale and a case prep tools...... next on the list is either a Hornady or RCBS press.......... maybe the lee press will make a good priming press.........

Well i went to the range today with the loads I made with the crap shoot lee scale. For my first time ever reloading i was damn impressed with the results. So the bug bit and it bit hard! I love this ####! I'm to impatient to wait for a scale to get shipped so on my way home from the range I stopped off at wholesale sports and picked up a rcbs 505. That was the best $$$ ive spent in awhile. Soon as i got home i started loading up some more rounds with my nice new and easy as hell to use scale! My gf is going to HATE me soon hahahaha.
