Lee slugs and Unique powder

Here's the deal. I just bought a Lee 1 oz slug mold and will be using Unique powder since I have a lot of it. I've dug into every box that hasn't been touched since we moved, and for the life of me, I can't find my Alliant powder book. I can't find slugs on their website....blah blah blah.

Using a 1 oz slug. Winchester AA hulls. Unique powder. Winchester primers. Before I lose my mind and rip the whole house apart looking for the book.....what's the damned starting load ?? 22gr rings a bell ??? Arrrrgh !!!!

Ok. Time to head out into the garage and melt some innocent lead bars into something better.

Don't know about Unique but I started out with using the Lead Shot load with my 7/8 oz and fine tuning from there. I'm just over the Shot load using Int'l. They shot fine with the suggested load but 0.5gr more made them a little more accurate at 25m with no problems with pressure or anything. I'm not exactly sure if it was the Lee instructions or on a forum somewhere but the Lee Slugs work with the same load as shot.

The Lee slugs work best with Win Wads. I believe the pink ones are for the 1oz slug (not sure as mine are the grey for 7/8oz).
 
I suppose you can use shot data for a start as mentioned.
Cant find my slug data at hand as I havnt loaded slugs forever, but I believe the charge for Unique was 18.5g..Don't rely on that without confirmation but it will be mighty darn close..and yes, pinks are for 1 to 1 1/8oz, greys are for 7/8oz

Lyman 5th Edition says that with a 475 grain (foster type) slug in a AA hull, use 28.0 grains of Unique with a Winchester WAA12 wad with 2 - .125 card wads under the slug.
Says use roll crimp only.
1380 fps and 10,500 psi pressure.
 
I load the Lee 7/8 slug in a claybuster pink wad over 22 grains of Unique. Works great for me using "skeet 2" choke.
Wouldn't personally want to go any more than 22 grains of Unique, its a pretty fast powder. Your mileage may vary.
 
Ok. Thanks for the info guys. I knew it was somewhere around 22ish grains, but the head computer doesn't remember things as well as it used to. I looked some more for that book, but it's nowhere to be found. It must be unpacked and stashed somewhere with other books. It's the actual Alliant powder load recommendation book I got for a distributor a while back. It SO ticks me off when I can't find stuff I know I have. Thanks again.
