I'm going to get a Turret press and was trying to deside if I should go with 3 or 4 whole turrets. Is the 4th whole is only usefull if I have a factory crimp die correct? So if I only use 3 dies and get a 4 whole turret would it even work? be a disadvantage? (extra handle pull to skip over?)
I'm assuming you are considering the Lee old model turret with the aluminum base, since that is the only current production turret I know with a 3 hole turret. I suggest forget the 3-holer since the 4-holer will give you more options...like using the FCD as you mentioned or a dedicated crimp die if you do not want to post size with the FCD (as when you need to load oversize bullets to customize ammo for an oversize bore). As well, go with the Classic Turret if I may suggest as it is way more solid and durable (not that the aluminum base will not last a long time...it is quite durable too) and well worth the few extra bucks. Priming with the Classic Turret is quick and safe as the primer tray is isolated far (several inches) from the priming operation, so a primer chain explosion is not likely.
As always, follow Lee's safety precautions.
The extra pull for the 4-holer takes an extra second to do, is all. Besides the Classic turret is not available in a 3 hole version.
I agree with previous posters who recommend the Safety Prime. Don't forget to choose the Large and Small Primer kit as you will need both sooner or later.
As well, go with the Pro-Autodisk Powder Measure as it now comes with the micrometer adjustable disk for infinitely variable powder charges. Do not even consider the old model Autodisk measure as it doesn't come withthe above plus the nice on-off hopper feature, the thumbscrew hopper mounting system, teflon coated body for smooth operation and the better sealing system to prevent powder leaks. Add the "riser" to your order to raise the measure assembly above the Safety Prime attachment for smoother operation.
Check out Lee Factory Sales website. Personally, I don't like shipping across the border as the government always takes it pound of flesh, and shipping cost usually negates the cheaper US pricing . I rather buy from a Canadian source, even at a slightly higher price. Anyways, that's your call.
