Hi - So, I've been following this forum for a while, and I am going to start reloading. I've decided to go with Lee based on the price. I will be reloading for now .40 S&W, and .303 British.

As I am reloading pistol, I was leaning towards the turret press, as I understand it can also accomodate rifle - but from my reading, I see some issues with powder charging the rifle cases based on volume. The turret kits included the auto disk.

Does anyone use the turret press, and what are their experiences?

Thanks for helping out a newby!

I'm using a LEE turret press. It's not bad for the price, much faster than a single stage, but way slower than a progressive. That's a good midpoint, for not much more money.

If you shoot alot (maybe 200 rounds per week or more, I suggest saving up for a progressive), else you'll spend alot of time reloading.

Lee's 4-hole Turret press with auto indexing is probably the best press system that Lee makes...it works.
However, while it is very good for loading pistol rounds, it's not that great with rifle rounds...it really pushes the press's design and function capabilities. I'd suggest either a single stage or a progressive for rifle rounds.
For loading a couple of hundred rounds of pistol ammo, the Lee Turret press is as good as anything. Sure, a progressive is faster, but where's the fun in that?

For reloading rifle and rifle only I got a good used one from Stanway here on the site. I took out the indexing rod. I do up a whole batch one process at a time. I like the ability to change calibres easily. Downside: I measure most rounds for consistancy and have notices a fair amount of difference, It's easily fixed with another cycle but it's a bugbear.

I am using a Lee 4 hole turret for both pistol and rifle. In my rifle calibre turrets I have a sizer/decapper, a universal charging die, a seating die and a factory crimp die. I'm using the lee perfect powder measure with the charging die, and switching it from turret to turret as I reload different calibres. The charging die will allow the powder measure to throw automatically, however it requires a manual reset. I'm pondering adding a return spring (a-la Lee Auto Disk) to automatically reset the measure.

With the pistol calibre setups I'm using an auto-disk.

With .223 I can use the auto indexing feature, with .308, .30-06 and .303 British, I cannot.
