Lee Zip Case Trimer

I bought a Zip Trim when I first started reloading years ago. I don't think I ever got it quite to work - I could not get my brass to stay in the screw to tighten holder. The Zip Trim is in the box on the desk just behind me - I really have to get it posted up for sale on EE when I get the chance.

mine works great, to avoid hand cramping get the large trimmer holder with the wooded ball. I tend to only run 1/2-1 hr at a time when doing bulk pistol brass, never had to stop for a break with rifle brass. To smooth things out dip your brass into graphite/birdshot mix like some do when lubing case necks, makes things way easier! Best thing is I do not know how I would trim brass too short with it!

You trim pistol brass?

Why?

I know it sounds overboard, but I like all my ammo to be the same, that way I know its me and not the ammo!! makes for nice even crimps as well, it does grow on every firing!!

I just take the Lee length guage/trimmer and chuck it in my drill press. Start up the drill press, slide a case over the length guage, pull down the drill press handle until the cutter stops cutting, repeat. Fast and easy.

I've had a zip trim for a couple years. Do all my bottleneck case trimming, deurring and flash hole deburring. Never trimmed pistol or straight walled rifle. Also use the ball grip cutter. All the other spinning prep tools I run in a CT drill press.

I'm planning on buying an RCBS 90366 with a 90278 cutting head. Might be a bit of overkill, bit I should be able to blow through my stock of brass in a couple evenings :)

I have one, I use it on 10 different calibers. It's easy to use, gives a consistant cut. If you want to fool around with different case lengths within a caliber then this won't work and you will need to spend more money on a bench mounted hand lathe where you can set what ever length you want to trim to. But for everyday hunting and shooting at the range it can't be beat.

My zip trim is the only case-prep tool I have. I do all my trimming with it, and I also clean all my brass on it with 000 steel wool. Don't own a tumbler and don't think I'll bother with one. . . quicker than you might think actually. Excellent value IMO. Got mine at WSS, they usually have a few there. (best thing about Cabelas coming to Stoon is that the shelves are full at Wholesale now:))
