I'm new to shooting handguns. I shoot left. Is there such a thing as a left hand auto pistol?
I have a 1911, I can manage everything with my left hand, it's just slightly awkward.

any glock should be fine, as you can get at the slide release/lock lever with your index finger. Sig p320 is lefty friendly, as is the m&p line. I believe the HKSFP9 also fits the bill

FN fns9, fantastic pistol and truly ambidextrous, slide release and mag release on both sides, check out Hickock45's review on YouTube, made in the USA, cold hammer forged barrel and comes with 3 factory mags, I am a lefty and love mine, well worth looking at
OP, I notice you are in the interior, if you ever make it down to the lower mainland I would be happy to let you try mine out

Walther PPX has user reversible mag release, but not fully ambi. Good value for money though.

I am a lefty and now shoot a cz-85. They are great. I also have experience with but cannot recommend the M&P for a lefty since the slide stop lever sticks when you hit it on the right side of the pistol with your thumb. I saw it was due to a too thin linkage arm between the right side and the left side of the stop lever with too much flex so you really have to force the right side slide stop down so firmly that it isn't consistent and repeatable, or at least on the one I had and sold.

1911 without extended controls, or CZ

Single action revolvers too - they were designed for left handed use

For most pistols the most awkward action is to lock the slide back while holding it in the left hand. Otherwise just about anything can work for us, with or without some minor adjustments

Another vote for the CZ 85 Combat. With a 13# mainspring the gun is an amazing pistol. Like virtually all modern pistols , reliable but comes with outstanding accuracy CZ's are known for. Comes with a manual safety which is a bonus for most shooters and is all steel. Your wife can give it to her grand-daughters.

Take Care

I am a lefty and I own an HK SFP9. Paddle magazine release makes it easy to use for a lefty, slide stop is on both sides so that isn't an issue either.

Only issue I have with the gun is the right side slide release is really long and the regular "thumbs forward" grip tends to keep the slide from locking back on an empty magazine. Requires changing your grip a bit.

Cz 85 was on my short list but couldn't find one so bought fns 9L. The take down lever isn't abi but the rest is full time.

All a 1911 needs for efficient left hand operation is an ambi safety. The slide and magazine releases can be operated with the left index finger.

Most modern striker-fired pistols are fairly ambidextrous.
