Left hand friendly pistol??

old ruger P-89 are fully ambi - was my first gun (im a lefty as well)
new rugers are 1/2 ambi - SR9 for example has ambi mag release and safety but the slide drop is not, havnt shot the new ruger american yet so cant say as to that one.
M&P are my current flavor of choice and they are a good ambi gun.
ive shot a couple FN guns and they seem to run a nice ambi platform.

Hi, I am a lefty as well and here are some comments from the pistols I tried:
- 92FS: safety and mag release ambi, super
- Glock 17: got a bigger slide release, does good. I operate it with the side my index.
- Revolvers: all ok
- PPQ: slide release works (see M&P below) but it is very hard to push on the right side.
- M&P: ambi slide release does not work. It bends when activated on the right side and does not release.
- 1911: get an ambi-safety and a bigger slide release. You can operate it with the side of your index finger, like I do with the G17.
- Strike One: too small slide release, no after market parts available, I do not use it.
- Browning Buck Mark 22lr: ok to shoot but both the slide release and the safety can only be operated for a righty. So lefty use is not great...
- Browning Hi-Power: not lefty friendly at all, safety is not ambi. Fun to shoot but not good to operate for a lefty.

As a general rule, I do not switch the mag release button even it can be done. I use my middle finger to push it with my left hand.

So safety: get an ambi model. Or get one without a safety (i.e. Glock).
Slide release: get used to the grab and rack the slide, forget about the slide release for quick reloads. Very few models have an ambi release, but not all work. Test and see.

So there you go, my 2 cents!

thats actually an interesting statement.
ive got 6 M&P's and 4 of them the slide release works on the right side like a charm - but on 2 of them it dosnt work worth beans.
i agree with what you say, test and see.

Try the brand new Ruger American Pistol.
Excellent combination of many great features and engineering with a fabulous trigger out of the box.
Designed for ambidextrous use.

- Browning Hi-Power: not lefty friendly at all, safety is not ambi. Fun to shoot but not good to operate for a lefty.

Yes it is. The Mk III has an ambidextrous safety as standard. You can also install the Mk III's safety on older models.

The MK III BHP's actually have an ambi safety.

Ha ok I didi not know that. The only Hi-Power I shot are the ones in the army so, it was not a recent model (that's an understatement!).

The Mk III's safety is also more user-friendly than the original safety.
