I am thinking about modifying my 53 to left handed....I bought this gun with a tapco and 20 rd mag and there are a few upgrades, so for those out there that dont like messing with them, I promise i will never do it to my 51 laminate its stock and shall stay that way....So has anybody tried it if so have pics.I wont weld a 3/8 bolt to it if i do it ill get a machinist to make me the part! Anyhoo any input or pics appreciated.

I'm a lefty and other than the safety the SKS is perfect as is.

We can retain perfect grip and stay on the trigger and suddenly work the bolt with our supporting hand.

What is it that you are having issues that make you want to modify the charging handle on it?

Even with AR15 magazine adapter it is still perfect to run left handed.

As a lefty I like the right hand bolt of a semi, the only guns I have I wish was a left hand bolt handle is my enfields. Pretty hard to do the mad minute as a lefty with a right handed bolt action.

I seem to recall there was someone here or on the Sks survivor board that did a left side conversion for a friend who had lost use of their arm. There was a thread about it but I'm unable to find it.

I might get my chum to machine me a bolt handle, but i sure like the look of the original for sure!...theres a machine/fabricating shop not to far ill get them to tig it, all i have is stick and fluxcore wirefeed. But that sure suits my needs for sure Lou, I appreciate the ideas...thanks...M ....I might change over to a mag adapter so ill see them about some machining at the same time(they owe me a couple favours...lol)...get rid of the tapco....none of it is necessity but its a fun hobby.

Here it is, being used in a "mad minute" event at a milsurp shooting match.

I'm the guy towards the back, with the black-stocked, pistol-mag-equiped SKS, shooting lefty :)

My youngest son's right next to me, he was a bit jealous of the number of rounds I tossed downrange.
