I did a search and came up empty. If this has been asked before I apologize.

Id like a tactical left handed shotgun. Will a regular 870 tactical(short)barrel interchange with the left handed shotgun. I couldn't really see an issue, but possibly?

Thanks in advance, and a 'yes' or 'no' answer would be good.

Regular barrels only work with standard 870s. You need a specific left handed barrel for a left handed action. Down in the states they are rare as hen's teeth so you can imagine how hard they would be to find here.

If you absolutely must have an 870, it would be easier to swap the trigger group on a standard 870 for a left-handed one. Or buy a left handed express and chop the barrel down to 18.5".

You could also buy an Ithaca, Mossberg or a Browning as all three pumps are lefty friendly. There are certain advantages for left-handers to have a right side ejection port with left hand operated controls (Mossberg 500/535/590).

No such thing as a "tactical" barrel either.
I'm not seeing any extra left hand barrels on Remington's site. There are aftermarket left hand barrels, but none are under 24". Hastings make a 24" LH barrel that has rifle sights or scope mounts. Try Tradex.
Mind you, I've never had any problems shooting my backwards 870, left handed.
 
I have a lefty 870 with a 28" barrel. It's used for shooting clays only. Not much on the market for left handed stuff.

My other 870's are all right handed and they work fine for a south paw as far as I'm concerned.
 
Thanks for the great replies. Tan you nailed the answer I was looking for. I only asked because I'm thinking of getting a Stevens 350 with the bottom eject, which would be lefty friendly. Not nearly the after market for the Stevens, but for now, I'm alright with that.

I have plenty of right handed firearms that I shoot left handed. Never really had problems either. I just recently bought my first actual left handed firearm and is it ever nice. Everything where it should be. Something to be said for that.

Stay away from the Stevens 350... If you want a bottom eject pump shotgun, the Browning BPS is hard to beat, and there are lots of Ithaca M37's floating around too.
 
I was going to pick one up on the weekend. I have read a lot of good stuff about them. Not too many bad things. Could you elaborate on your answer?

I have seen the browning for a good price on this site, but just never pulled the trigger to buy one. The Stevens is a knock off of the Ithaca but less expensive.

The question is, are you going to trust your life to a knockoff or is this just a paper killer for the range?
 
The one thing I do like so much about the 870 is that you can mount a different choke and use it for close range coyotes.(instead of the door breacher that everyone is so fond of)
