Left home with no Cooey shotguns, came home with two

I remember an old friend of mine, saying to another fellow who had taken a long shot at a passing duck,"Pard, you may have an $1100.00 gun there ,but it will not kill any farther than mine will"This was in the day when an $1100.00 gun was a very rare thing to see.My friends gun probably cost him about $100.00,but he was right, that fancy gun would not kill any farther than his.:)LOL

I guess that's why serious clays guys use Cooey, Perazzi and Kreigoff. 'Cause as long as the clay breaks......

Are we talking serious clays guys here or cooeys?? Many have made the complete circle from starting with 4 gun sets of 870 & 1100 remingtons in the 60's to ending with K guns why because it was the thing to do at the time and did I shoot any better with a K32 nope in fact looking back got my best scores with a four barrel set of winchester 101's. Had a 3200 also which I remember had to go back with receiver issues my cooeys' were never recalled LOL
The stick is only a small part of it part of it IMO. Best local trap shooter I ever watched know what he used most times an old model 12 and he did it with just one arm . He won two Canadian Championships in 1974 and 1985 and the Grand American in Florida in 1982
Not sure if your bud spank achieved similar or not and I never seen him shoot but some say he was real good also
Cheers

I was responding to a smart ass comment, disguised as making some point. It made no point and I was highlighting that. There are good and valid reasons why some people drive M-B and some people drive used Ford pickups. They are different things, built to different standards with different features designed to please their target customer at different price points. Suggesting "they both get you there" not only doesn't make a point, it wildly misses the point.

Pleased to see this thread has taken on a life of its own over the past two weeks :)

Update: The bead was missing on the 20g and I promised my grandfather Id fix it up. Off to Epps I went last week where they graciously supplied me with a new brass bead free of charge, as they couldnt determine the threading of it.

About 30 mins of work with a tap and die set and with some advice from an uncle and the father in law, and the bead is installed and looks great.

A big thank-you to Epps. I know a brass bead isnt worth much, but FREE is a pleasant surprise Ill take any day of week.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. No smart ass comment intended ,just a fact in my humble opinion. Some agree with me ,while others do not.:)So we will just agree to disagree.:)

My old Cooey seen a lot of my noob years,
Worked hard to buy that beast...couldn't tell how many pop bottles I returned to help pay for it.
Took tons of rabbits and with a big ol 3incher it flipped geese no prob.
Hung it up when I bought a brand new Mossberg 400G. pump.
And recently ( 5yr or so ) I've pulled it from hibernation and with 2 3/4 inch turkey load it's put 4 toms in my oven.
Gotta luv it...

One thing that is important with shot guns is the fit, I am a poor shotgunners as I am a pistol guy, BUT, I have shot many cooeys, and a few 101's, etc.
But one time I received a high end 2 barrel sheet gun on trade, fitted leather case, 100% hand engraved, grade 5 +wood, the nicest shot gun I have ever picked up.
I improved my magpie, pigeon shooting by 50% because it shot where I looked, most of the other ones , I would be low, and slow, even with a 101 black diamond trap gun.
But that gun was never a truck or tractor gun, They will all do the same thing, it is just how they feel doing it.
Do I need 400hp, heated seat, steering wheel in my truck, No, but gee is that heated wheel nice in the winter in Sask.

For me, the 'ol Cooey is something I grab from the rack at the camp when I have a spare 15 minutes to go for a quick walk. If I was investing significant time in a hunt, I would bring along a nicer gun. The Cooey gets the nod as the quick walk gun, the throw over the shoulder when cleaning trail gun, the fast gun when a shotgun is needed gun.

Good that it was pointed out that Cooey shotguns aren't top of the line. Gosh, never would have guessed that. My first Cooey shotgun was a 12 ga. 84, bought at a local auction for $12 or $13, in about 1961. It was like new. I walked across town with it, nobody even batted an eye. It got so it would open upon shooting it, so I sold it.

For years after I sold that Cooey, I used my Dad's old Tobin 12 double for chicken. Still have that one. Another old "Canadian" that isn't top of the line.
